On Thursday, 27 October, the Coloproctology Unit of the General Surgery Department of MútuaTerrassa University Hospital held the last basic workshop for 2016.

Like in past editions, the conference was led by Dr. Albert Navarro, chief of the HUMT Coloproctology Unit, and Dr. Arantxa Muñoz, consulting physician in the same unit.

This basic workshop based on theory and practice is mainly intended for colorectal surgeons interested in using this treatment (surgeons who seek specific training on the indications and surgical technique and who would like to attend a live operation in an operating room).

This training session is part of a course which has been organised since 2012. It relies on the extensive experience of professionals in healthcare and research to present the diagnosis and treatment of bowel incontinence and other defecatory disorders. In 2017, two workshops will be held: one basic workshop and one advanced workshop.

Thepositive feedback from the first two editions and the fact that more than 200 Spanish and international professionals have been trained in this surgical treatment have led the organisers to hold a third edition. In this third edition, the format has been slightly changed to include advanced workshops for colorectal surgeons who already have experience working with this technique.

This course is organised within the framework of the training activities carried out by the HUMT Coloproctology Unit on an international and domestic level here in Spain. The HUMT has been a pioneer with the most experience in Spain in the use of this treatment since 1997.
