On 16 November at 1pm, the Infections Committee of MútuaTerrassa is organising a conference specially dedicated to primary care in commemoration of the European Antibiotic Awareness Day. The conference will rely on the presence of Dr. José Miguel Cisneros Herreros, chief of the Clinical Unit for Infectious Diseases, Microbiology and Preventive Medicine at the Virgen del Rocio y Virgen Macarena University Hospital of Seville.

During the conference, Dr. Cisneros will give a talk titled: ”In the age of bacterial resistance, are programs for optimizing the use of antibiotics (PROA) in primary care and hospitals the solutions?”

European Antibiotic Awareness Day is a European public health initiative which takes place every year on the 18 November. Its aim is to raise awareness of the threat that resistance to antibiotics represents for public health and to encourage the prudent use of antibiotics. Recent data shows that the number of patients infected by resistant bacteria is growing all around Europe and the resistance to antibiotics is a serious threat to public health.

Making prudent use of antibiotics can help stop resistant bacteria from developing and ensure that antibiotics maintain their effectiveness for future generations.
