The research group led by Dr. María Esteve joins the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red (CIBERehd)

The research group led by Dr. María Esteve Comas has recently joined the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red in Hepatic and Digestive Diseases (CIBERehd), a consortium -linked to the Carlos III Health Institute whose objective is to promote scientific research in excellence.

This incorporation into CIBERehd is a great achievement in scientific terms due to the fact that it contributes to promoting excellence research in liver and digestive diseases in an international context and enhances the interaction between the best groups in Spain. In addition, it also provides a clear orientation to translational research, thus favoring the obtaining of transferable results in clinical practice.

In this sense, belonging to the CIBERehd as a research group reinforces the Digestive service of HUMT and gives it a prominent prestige among the national scientific community. That of Dr. Esteve is one of the 44 groups that CIBERehd currently has, 19 of which belong to Catalonia.

The research lines of the group - made up of a dozen doctors from the Digestive Service of the MútuaTerrassa University Hospital (HUMT) - focus on intestinal immunology and celiac disease. In this sense, they study the epidemiology of celiac disease, the natural history, the diagnostic markers and the assessment of the response to the gluten-free diet.

In the field of immunity of the intestinal mucosa, they investigate cellular response patterns of various chronic inflammatory diseases (celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease and microscopic colitis), their physiopathological interest and their diagnostic application.
