Held in Palma de Mallorca from 15 to 16 June, the Scientific Committee of the 19th edition of the National Congress of the Spanish Society of Hip Surgery (SECC) awarded the prize for the best oral communication presented at the congress to Dr. Agustí Bartra, physician of the Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology of the HUMT.

With the title "Improvement of results in the treatment of the proximal femur fracture after the implementation of a Geriatric Trauma Unit", the study concluded that the implementation of a UTG allows to improve the management of the proximal femur fracture process in the elderly patients 65 years old.

This improvement has a statistically significant effect on the delay in surgery, the number of patients operated before 48 hours, the average hospital stay, the number of complications and the number of readmissions. It also improves - although not significantly - in-hospital mortality.

In addition to Dr. Bartra, Dr. Pablo Castillón, Dr. Emili Cañete, Dr. Saioa Quintas, Dr. Francisco Anglès-physicians of the Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology of the HUMT and representatives Of the UTG-. And Ms. Laura Puertas, a nurse.

In the framework of this congress, Drs. Emili Cañete, Martí Carles Bernaus, Agustí Bartra and Francisco Anglès also presented a scientific poster under the title "Arthroscopic treatment of symptomatic paralabral cyst".
