Between September 23 and 27, the Austrian city of Vienna hosted the 30th edition of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and three physicians of the Intensive Care service of the HUMT traveled with the purpose of presenting their communications and participating in this event of reference for professionals of this specialty of all Europe.

The service of Intensive Medicine of the HUMT, present in the Congress of the European Society of Intensive Medicine
In this sense, Dr. Ramón Algarte, physician of the Intensive Care Unit, presented the communication "Factors associated with survival of the hospital Recovered cardiac arrest. Results of the national registry in Spain", which presented the results of this national registry on cardiac arrest at the Spanish level.
Dr. Laura Martinez, R5 of the same service, presented two communications: "The National Early Warning Score (NEWS) for outcome predictors in medical patients in emergency department with medical criteria where admissioon in medical Ward: pilot study" and "Lacosamide use in ICU".
The first of these is a study - carried out jointly with the emergency department of the HUMT - that explores the usefulness of this result to predict complications in the entrance of medical patients and the second analyzes the use of this new antiepileptic drug in the critical patient, with special emphasis on relevant aspects of their effectiveness and safety.
Finally, Dr. Mar Fernández, physician to the same service, presented the communication "Reconnection to mechanical ventilation for one hour after succesful spontaneous breathing reduction trial in Critically ill patients: a Multicenter randomized controlled trial". This is a study - published in the journal of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine "Intensive Care Medicine", the third with the greatest impact factor (12.015) among intensive care publications - which deals with the impact of rest after a test of mechanic ventilation.
