The Mútua Terrassa University Hospital, a benchmark in inflammatory bowel disease

On March 23, the Digestive System Service received the certification that accredits its Intestinal Inflammatory Disease Unit
It is the fourth accredited unit in Catalonia and has obtained the highest score (96.22 points)

MútuaTerrassa University Hospital (HUMT) has received the certification that accredits its Intestinal Inflammatory Disease Unit (IBD), which places HUMT as a reference center and recognizes compliance with the highest quality standards and excellence in healthcare and research excellence. the unit, directed by Dr. María Esteve, head of the center's Digestive System service.

It is the fourth EII Unit in Catalonia and the one that has achieved the highest score in the evaluation (96.22% compliance), certified by the Ad Qualitatem Foundation. It has a trajectory of about 20 years and attends annually to a thousand patients with IBD (40% Crohn's Disease and 60% Ulcerative Colitis). Apart from the digestologists, it is integrated by professionals from the services of Pediatrics, Advanced Endoscopy, Surgery, Radiology, Rheumatology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Dermatology and Ophthalmology.

Dr. Carles Fontcuberta, managing director of the MútuaTerrassa Healthcare Service Scope, has placed value on the basic research and care work developed for almost two decades by the
professionals of the unit and explained that the certificate supports the effort of all of them towards the integral approach of the EII. Dr. Esteve also referred to the intense journey of the unit, commented on the main milestones reached and added that accreditation
encourages further work to improve the quality of life of patients with IBD.

This seal - which is part of a certification process jointly promoted by the Spanish Working Group on Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (GETECCU) and Ad Qualitatem - has as its main objective to improve and homogenize the care provision for patients with EII. In addition, the recognition of these comprehensive care units in Catalonia will allow working, together with the Health Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya and CatSalut, in order to provide care to patients throughout the territory to achieve maximum equity.

The event has had various interventions related to the history of the unit, the role of nursing and the management of care in IBD in Catalonia. Finally, Dr. Esteve has collected the certification from Dr. Alfredo Milazzo, president of the Ad Qualitatem Foundation
