On 16 December, the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of MútuaTerrassa University Hospital is organising a conference on medical disease during pregnancy.



Caring for pregnant women with medical diseases is complex and needs the simultaneous support of various specialists. The difficulty lies not only in the complexity of the pregnant woman’s pre-existing disease but also in the notion that treatment has to take into account the effect of the disease and medication on the foetus and how pregnancy may modify the course of the disease.



Working in an interdisciplinary team and ensuring effective communication among members is a current challenge in daily practice as they require coordination, joint protocols and good communication skills.



This conference aims to create dialogue between obstetricians and other attending professionals and to provide them with updated information on pre-existing diseases in pregnant women. The conference will also seek to implement collaboration strategies between professionals in order to improve care given to pregnant women with pre-existing diseases.
