On 20 September, the Endocrinology and Nutrition Department of MútuaTerrassa University Hospital is organising a conference focused around sarcopenia, its consequences, treatment and prevention.

The conference, divided into two parts, is free of charge and will take place in the MútuaTerrassa Edifici Docent from 3pm to 6pm. The first part will explain the relationship between sarcopenia and age as well as between other diseases such as heart failure, COPD or certain types of cancer. The second part will focus on various treatment and prevention plans based on nutrition and physical activity.

Sarcopenia is the loss of muscular mass and strength due to age or disease. In the elderly, sarcopenia is a precarious health condition as it increases the risk for falls, fractures, hospitalisations, morbidity and mortality. In people with cancer, sarcopenia is associated with greater complications and fewer chances of survival.
