In mid-March, the 12th Catalan Interdisciplinary Conference of Residences for the Elderly was held and the health and nursing home L'Ametlla del Vallès received the second prize with the poster "Reminiscence Therapy: discovering the past to improve the present". The recognized work shows a study carried out in the center about the benefits of the implementation of reminiscence therapy and the construction of a concrete space for the development of the residents. This therapy is conceived as an intervention technique closely related to person-centered care, since it emphasizes the history of life, the feeling of identity and a positive social environment as key elements to generate well-being in people.
Through the DCM tool (Dementia Care Mapping), the study highlights the importance of the environment and space to generate well-being and encourage the beginning of memory, as well as an improvement in the involvement, social interaction and mood of the children. people.
The main objective of the conference was to respond to the training needs of professionals and to become a space for the exchange of experiences in the care of the elderly, contemplated from the different aspects of the interdisciplinary approach and with a model of integrative attention . Once again, they were organized by the seven Professional Associations involved in the care of this sector of the population: COMB, COIB, CODTS, ICAB, COPC, COTOC and CEESC.
