The General Surgery Service organizes the 1st day of Transanal-TaTME Surgery
The transanal approach to perform total excision of the mesorectum is an innovative surgical technique in the treatment of rectal cancer. This surgical technique involves less surgical aggression and also provides potential advantages over laparoscopic surgery that could improve the oncological prognosis of these patients. Transanal surgery is a challenge for surgeons, since it is a demanding technique that requires not only experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery techniques, but also experience in colorectal surgery, transanal surgery and habituation to a vision of the surgical field in which the surgeon is not used to. This makes it necessary for surgeons who want to implement this technique to previously acquire the skills in centers with surgical teams that are experts in this approach.
This day consisted of theoretical sessions given by all the members of the surgical team: Nursing (Mrs. Anna Solé), Anesthesiology (Dr. Aurora Rodríguez) and Surgery (Dr. Carlos Maristany and Dr. Juan Manuel Romero). In addition, attendees attended live to perform one of these procedures.
The interest that this new technique has aroused among the surgical community, the forecast is to carry out several sessions throughout the year, with the assistance of professionals from all over the country.
