The accreditation workshop of the Intestinal Inflammatory Disease Units brings together a dozen professionals from all over Catalonia

Last Friday, May 18, the HUMT Digestive Apparatus service organized a workshop with the purpose of explaining the requirements that must be complied with in order to have an accredited Intestinal Inflammatory Disease Unit (IBD).

The session was attended by a dozen professionals (8 doctors and 2 nurses) from various centers in Catalonia: the Hospital of St. Joan Despí Moisès Broggi, the General Hospital of Granollers, the University Hospital of Bellvitge, the Joan Hospital XXIII of Tarragona, the University Hospital of San Juan de Reus, the Hospital St. Juan de Dios of Manresa and the Hospital of Viladecans.

All of them underwent a rotation through the 4 work stations of the Unit (Surgery-coloproctology, advanced endoscopy, operation of the unit and monographic consultation and basic research laboratory) to know its organization and work methodology. At the end of the workshop, a joint explanatory session was held of the 53 items that the audit assesses in order to obtain accreditation.

The initiative, which coincided with the celebration of World Intestinal Inflammatory Disease Day - last Saturday 19 - took place only two months after receiving accreditation from the EUII of the Digestive System service. Let us remember that it is the fourth accredited unit in Catalonia and the one with the highest score in the evaluation (96.22% compliance). It has a trajectory of almost 20 years and attends annually to a thousand patients with IBD.
