The initiative

  • Justification

The current financial recession provides a context which favours the processes leading to the progressive decline in living standards and isolation of the elderly. Furthermore, certain groups of young people have a hard time gaining regular access to food.

  • Description

Compartint Taula is a support project aimed at helping the elderly who have financial and/or social difficulties. Intergeneraccions, a project aimed at vulnerable young people, offers meals in exchange for organising activities with the elderly.

It offers temporary services in the centres managed by Vallparadís Foundation to provide free meals to the elderly and young people who are referred from basic social security services.

This project also aims to make this social service available to local residents and become a reference service.

    The centres:

    • Baix Camp nursing home and adult day care centre (Cambrils)
    • Mora la Nova nursing home and adult day care centre
    • Ca n’Anglada adult day care centre

  • Goals

Promote quality of life for the elderly and young people who live in the town by offering direct, professional and quality services.

    Specific objectives:

    • Offer free meals suitable to the age group and the health characteristics of users.
    • Strengthen communal living and social relationships in the centre and the social environment of users.
    • Detect and prevent cases of social needs in collaboration with basic social services.
    • Favour the personal and social independence of the elderly.

  • Beneficiary

    • People over the age of 65
    • with social and/or financial problems, especially people who live alone or who have loose-knit or damaged family ties.
    • People who live near the centre and can come on their own.
    • People who can carry out ADL (activities of daily living) on their own without conduct disorders that may upset communal living in the centre.
    • Young people whose secondary schools do not offer them lunch and who come from families with a precarious financial existence.
