HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a technique that uses ultrasounds to induce transient hyperthermia (60-100ºC) in order to generate coagulative necrosis of biological tissue. The necrosis generated in tissue is then reabsorbed by surrounding healthy tissue or leads to fibrosis as a way to repair tissue. This technique is also known as thermal ablation.
