Diabetes a challenge to overcome - Prevention tips and guidelines

According to the IDF Atlas of Diabetes 2015 (Foundation for Diabetes) estimated that one in 11 adults have diabetes, which is about 415 million people worldwide and that by 2040 it is expected that the figure can be that increases to 642 million people.

Diabetes is a chronic condition that occurs when the body can not make enough insulin or can not use insulin, and it is diagnosed by observing high blood glucose levels.
Insulin is a hormone produced in the pancreas. It is required to transport glucose from the blood into the cells of the body where it is used as energy. The lack, or ineffectiveness, of insulin in people with diabetes means that glucose continues to circulate in the blood. Over time, the resulting high levels of blood glucose (known as hyperglycemia) cause damage to many tissues of the body, leading to the development of health complications that can be disabling and life threatening.

TYPES OF DIABETES
The three main types of diabetes are:
Type 1 diabetes:
Risk factors are converted by family history of diabetes, genetics, an infection and other environmental influences

  • Appears suddenly and currently can not be cured
  • Without insulin, a person with Type 1 diabetes can not live

    Type 2 diabetes
Risk factors may result from excessive weight, physical inactivity, poor diet, genetics, family history of diabetes, history of gestational diabetes, and advanced age

    • May go unnoticed and undiagnosed for years
    • It can often be controlled with changes in diet and increased physical activity. In some cases it is necessary to take medication

      Gestational diabetes

      • Appears during pregnancy
      • It is associated with an increased risk in the mother and child of developing type 2 diabetes later

Healthy eating and increased physical activity can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
